CSR-Vision
The Basque society is on the way to replacing a purely economic concept of the company with one that sees it as a fundamental to social development. The vision is to build a new enterprise culture, which actively participates in the construction of a prosperous, fair, sustainable society supporting the values of solidarity. To realise this social responsibility will gradually be introduced (through specific regional programmes) into the very heart of the enterprise culture thereby conditioning company’s everyday decisions.
Political powers
The government of The Basque Country has powers over subjects related to CSR in fields such as economy, social affairs education, environment, and local government.
In 1978, when democracy was reestablished in Spain, the geographical distribution of power was brought up to date with a system guaranteeing the right of autonomy to the regions and the nationalities of which they were composed. In this model, the Basque provinces’ tradition of self-government, founded on their historical rights, was partially transmitted and concentrated in the hands of a political entity common to all the Basque provinces: The Basque Regional Government.
