Tracking framework

This section of the toolkit leads you to taking action. It will start with self-assessment, so you will be able to track where is your organisation now, and where it wants to be in the future. By taking the test, you will get a list of ideas with suggested actions as well as useful tools to take them forward.

This tracking framework is to help you to define a path that meets your particular ambitions for CSR development. Public authorities committed to CSR often evolve their practice through some typical stages:

1. Starting Off

Occasional or unconnected initiatives. No systematic approach to the range of sustainable development issues. No clear definition of goals involving business and CSR.

2. Getting Going

Sustainable development and CSR recognised as policy issues. No formal processes to drive a consistent approach.Public role is to define role for business. Engagement with business is occasional.

3. Growing Capacity

Sustainable development and CSR embedded in some departments. Local companies encouraged to engage with CSR and drive improvements. Recognition of success.

4. Reaching Out

Sustainable development and CSR integrated into strategy. Stakeholders involved, partnerships developed. CSR endorsed in range of practices e.g procurement. Leadership by example and recognition of action by others.

5. Showing Leadership

Sustainable development and CSR explicitly linked to competitiveness of the region/locality.Stakeholder engagement sustained.Leadership and promotion at local national and international levels.

Participation in wider networks
